The Artist Phase
When I was a child, my mother was convinced that I should end up being something special as an adult. Therefore, she insisted that I have the best education, healthcare, and associate with only the right children. That meant that I had a Catholic education which was quite easy, because the church and school were only two blocks from my house and easy walking distance. It also meant that when I was plagued with bronchitis, allergies, and ear infections, I spent a lot of time in the doctor's office. It also meant that I was the first kid to bundle up in the fall, and the last one to shed my snow suit in the spring.
Along the way, one of my friends happened to be a little girl who was very good at drawing. My mother insisted that I could be that girl and bought me all manner of art materials to assist me along the way. Fortunately for me, my mother gave up pushing and left me to my natural abilities which seem to be an ability for style and design, so I dressed well and looked nice which seemed to make my mother happy.
During my years of working and raising a family, I did interior decorating, furniture refinishing, sewing, knitting, crocheting, and continued to coordinate my wardrobe so that all my underwear matched. Who knew, except my husband!
So now I'm really old and find my Cannon is too heavy to carry on all of my adventures. Not to worry. My cell phone works fine, and I can post my pictures to my blog, so that my kids know where I am and what what I'm doing. I also made them all scrapbooks of themselves and family.
I owe my rock phase to a friend who is a true artist that insisted that I could paint rocks also. Kids do it, so why not me? It's been a year since I started, and now I participate in vendor markets and have a whole new group of friends, ideas, and goals. I have no idea how good my work is, but all my customers, and even those who don't actually buy, pay nice compliments.
This is not a rock. I'm rocking a long way from my topic. A friend of mine, who is also a vendor specializing in woodworking, saw my rocks and asked me to try my hand at painting on some of his wood pieces. We collaborated as he did the eyes with epoxy so that light shines through for a very cool effect.
Below is an example of my Pebble People or animals as the case may be. I saw this on the internet and began my own version immediately. In learning how to create this project, I have also had to learn how to glue. This requires dexterity and patience. Something not abundant in people my age.
